“The Spring Series” performed by Giordano Dance Chicago provides an evening of cutting edge dance entertainment. Celebrating its 55th season, audiences can expect an array of dances from the slow and sensual to the playful and humorous, all the while embracing their classic moniker as “America’s original jazz company,” while still keeping eyes on the future. The talented and well-trained dancers were not only able to perform the demanding choreography with precision, they were able to tell each dances story through expression, a tricky feat for such rigorous material. The program features choreography from Brock Clawson, Christopher Huggins, Ray Mercer, Joshua Blake Carter, Ronan Koresh, and Davis Robertson. The choreographers explore what seems to be every possible combination of body movements and position, creatively combining the unpredictability of modern dance with the timelessness of jazz and ballet. The show would be perfect for first time dance goers or those who may be apprehensive about dance performances. The show offers plenty of pace changes to interest and excite any audience. Veteran dance audiences can also appreciate the individual skill and group precision the company continues to offer.
